Your programme
Prepare four accompanied songs, with at least one from each of Lists A, B and C. The fourth can be another listed song or an own-choice musical theatre song. Use no more than two songs by the same composer.
Timing & preparation
The maximum programme time is 25 minutes, including transitions and an optional break of up to 2 minutes. An own-choice song normally lasts at least 3 minutes. Check the source for recording requirements.
Choosing a key
For listed Grade 8 songs, stay within one tone (two semitones) of a key in a listed edition, even when using another edition. Own-choice songs may be in any key. A reference recording may use a different key or arrangement.
Entry prerequisite
Grade 8 entry requires ABRSM Grade 5 or above in Music Theory, Practical Musicianship, or a Practical Grades solo Jazz instrument, or an accepted alternative. Check ABRSM’s source for the full requirement.
